Time to finish this delayed task.

On March 22nd, we left Florence and took the train to Rome.  Confined to limited budget, April and I stayed in a
6-bed dorm for our "Roman holidays".

The next morning, we woke up to the crystal sunshine and were greeted with pleasant breezes all the day. To make the most of the fine weather, we left the dorm pretty early and made Colosseum our first stop.  Baptized by the sun and rain for more than two thousand years, the remainder of Colosseum is still as imposing as it used to be. Like other wide-eyed tourists, I snapped several photos of the relics and those street performaners who dressed as an ancient gladitor. In adjacence to Colosseum is the ruins of some arched doors and shrines. As I strolled down there at my pleasure, two little girls (no older than 6 ) tried to steal my wallet, which was an blemish in this otherwise perfect one-day trip.

During my 5-day stay in Rome, I visited most of the must-see scenic spots. Still, I can't find any words other than awe-inspiring, magnificent and glamorous to describe these historical relics such as Colosseum, Piazza Navona and the Vatican city. As I entered a church in Rome, I would always gasp in aspiration for its exquisite frescos, statues and stained glass. I am not a pious christian, but was still overwhelmed by a sense of tranquility and awe. For several times, I almost knelt down as surrounded by a wave of angelic hymn.

I didn't know much about the Renaissance, but soon understood how the painting and architecture in Rome have defined it and vice versa as I stepped into the Vatican Museum. Vatican is the tiniest country in size, but amplified by it countless treasures in terms of culture and religion. Also, beyond my expectation, I saw two mummies together with their colored coffins in the Vatican Museum, and took pictures of them. However, taking pictures of the deceased is offensive and impolite, and  I was daunted by all the legends about mummies and their revival. So I deleted the pictures I took of them when I returned to Leeds.

Another must-see is the Fountain deTrevi, an important scene in the movie "Roman Holidays". With no exception, I tossed a coin into it with my left hand and made a simple wish before rushing to catch the flight back.

What's also worth mentioning is that we didn't notice the time was moved forward for one hour due to the daylight saving time, and almost missed our flight. Unlike travelling in Switzerland, English doesn't really work in Italy which is a big trouble for tourists. However, I will still recommend my friends to pay a short visit to Italy, especially Rome, because the paintings and architectures are unbelievably impressive and  and the memory I have is indelible.
